A charcoal copy of one of Rembrandt’s self portraits. This one is titled Self Portrait With Dead Bittern. I had to look it up too — a bittern is a type of bird in the heron family with a short neck. An interesting thing about this self portrait is that only nobility were permitted to hunt at the time. Rembrandt painted himself as an equal of a nobleman by posing with this bird.
